2024 Miss Basketball Chloe Spreen returns home to play for IU

BLOOMINGTON – Chloe Spreen, the 2024 IndyStar Miss Basketball and Bedford North Lawrence High School graduate, is coming home. The 5-foot-10 guard announced her commitment to Indiana University women’s basketball on social media Wednesday, which the program later confirmed.

Spreen, a four-star recruit, spent her freshman season at Alabama, where she averaged 6.7 minutes across 20 games, totaling 23 points, nine rebounds, 10 assists, and three steals. Her playing time was limited, and she averaged 1.2 points per game, shooting 26.9% from the field and 18.2% from 3-point range.

Despite her limited role at Alabama, Indiana women’s basketball is bringing Spreen back to her home state, banking on the impressive potential she displayed during her stellar high school career. During her time at Bedford North Lawrence from 2020-24, Spreen scored 1,869 points, grabbed 633 rebounds, dished out 259 assists, and recorded 200 steals. She averaged 17.6 points, six rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game.

Spreen’s accolades include being named the 2024 Miss Basketball and the 2023 MaxPreps Girls Basketball Player of the Year. Indiana had shown interest in Spreen early in her high school career, offering her a scholarship, but she initially opted for Alabama.

Now, Spreen is returning to Indiana, joining a roster that includes 2025 Indiana Miss Basketball Maya Makalusky and 2025 Missouri Show-Me Miss Basketball Nevaeh Caffey. She has three years of eligibility remaining.

Spreen’s decision to play for Indiana continues a trend of Bedford North Lawrence Miss Basketball winners playing for the Hoosiers. She is the third Miss Basketball from the school to play for Indiana, following in the footsteps of Marla Inman Eltrevoog, the 1992 Miss Basketball, who played for Indiana before transferring to Louisville.

Spreen cited coach Teri Moren’s vision for the program as a significant factor in her decision. “Hearing coach Teri Moren talk about how she wants to run the program and what she’s been building was very encouraging and motivational,” Spreen said.

Her return is highly anticipated by Hoosier fans, who are eager to see her potential realized in the cream and crimson.
