HELTONVILLE – An Indianapolis man has been arrested and faces charges of invasion of privacy and stalking after allegedly violating a protective order and repeatedly contacting a juvenile female in Heltonville.

The Lawrence County Police Department arrested 21-year-old Jamie Sotelo following an investigation into the incidents that occurred on March 24 and 25, 2025.

According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Deputy C. Pruett, the investigation began when a juvenile female contacted the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department at approximately 12:10 a.m. on March 25. She reported that Sotelo repeatedly called her and left voice messages, stating he was en route to her residence on Roberts Lane in Heltonville. She informed officers that she had a protective order against Sotelo, which was issued in August 2024 after discovering he was older than he had initially told her.

The female told Deputy Pruett that Sotelo had contacted her via Snapchat for two days, creating new accounts after she blocked him. She stated that at approximately 10:30 p.m. on March 24, Sotelo informed her he was coming to her residence. While speaking with Deputy Pruett, she received a message from Sotelo stating he was 19 minutes away. She also indicated that Sotelo typically drove a dark blue passenger car and parked at a nearby church before walking to her home.

Deputies located Sotelo’s vehicle, a blue 2022 Chevy Malibu, on State Road 446 near the intersection of State Road 58, but he was not present. Later, the female reported that Sotelo had contacted her again via Snapchat, asking if she had called the police. She also sent officers a picture of Sotelo standing outside her bedroom window.

Despite extensive searches of the area, officers could not locate Sotelo then. However, screenshots of the messages and calls, along with a copy of the protective order, were provided as evidence.

A criminal warrant was issued for Sotelo’s arrest based on the evidence presented. He was later apprehended. He now faces charges of invasion of privacy and stalking.

Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
