Bedford man arrested after accused of sending intimidating text messages

BEDFORD – A Bedford man is facing a charge of intimidation, a Class A misdemeanor, after allegedly sending threatening text messages to a local youth.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputy Davis Miller, the alleged incident occurred on February 1, 2025. A male reported to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department that he had received threatening texts from 51-year-old Todd Branaman. The youth explained that he had borrowed a four-wheeler from Branaman, and when he returned it, the mirrors and a toggle switch were broken. The youth told Branaman he would repair the damage.

The subsequent text messages from Branaman to the male concerned the youth and his family. One text reportedly stated, “I’m good to my word, my mirrors everything back to normal, I will f*** your world up.” Other messages indicated Branaman’s frustration and a change in demeanor.

Deputies Miller, Hawkins, and Compton went to Branaman’s residence to speak with him. Branaman, who sounded intoxicated, reportedly told them through the door that he could not come to the door. Deputy Miller called Branaman, who confirmed his identity and admitted he was angry with the youth. Branaman stated he did not intend to harm the male he considered a friend.

The family was given a Hoosier Hills Pact card, and extra patrols were requested for their area.

A warrant was requested for Branaman’s arrest on a charge of intimidation. He was arrested on February 19.

Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
