BEDFORD – A Bedford North Lawrence High School student was arrested on Friday, February 7, 2025, after being found intoxicated in class.
Triton Austin Shawn Reed, 18, was charged with minor in possession of alcohol and illegal consumption of alcohol.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed by School Resource Officer Justin Gilbert of the Bedford Police Department, Reed informed his chemistry teacher, Nicholas Boyd, that he was too intoxicated to continue in class. Security officer Bill Decker was notified, and Reed led Decker to his car in the parking lot, where he handed over a bottle of Smirnoff Vodka that he had been drinking during the school day.
Decker took the vodka and Reed to Assistant Principal McNabb’s office, who then contacted Officer Gilbert. Gilbert spoke with Reed and noted the odor of alcohol on his breath and person, slurred speech, and red, bloodshot eyes. A portable breath test administered by Gilbert showed a blood alcohol content of 0.13%.
Reed was arrested for illegal consumption and possession of alcohol.
Officer Hatton transported Reed to the Lawrence County Jail without incident.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
