WEST BADEN– A 911 call reporting a potentially intoxicated driver led to an arrest in Orange County on Friday evening, February 7th.
Indiana State Trooper Leah Schnell was in the French Lick area when Orange County Dispatch alerted authorities to a white GMC SUV reportedly driving erratically on State Road 145, crossing the center line and driving into the path of oncoming traffic.
Trooper Schnell located the vehicle and followed it to a McDonald’s in West Baden. Trooper Schnell and West Baden Police officers approached the car and spoke with the French Lick driver, Dawn Turner, 55. During the interaction, officers noted that Turner had also struck a pole. Turner displayed visible signs of impairment.
Turner was transported to IU Health Hospital in Paoli for a chemical test and medical clearance. Following the evaluation, she was arrested and taken to the Orange County Jail on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction, a Level 6 felony.
Trooper Schnell was the arresting officer, assisted by the West Baden Police Department.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
