Vincennes Police investigate Security Company Impersonators attempting to enter homes

VINCENNES – The Vincennes Police Department’s Detective Division is investigating incidents involving individuals impersonating security company representatives who have attempted to enter homes under the guise of “upgrading” security systems.

The impersonators claimed to be affiliated with the same security companies as the homeowners, gaining entry by asserting they were there for service upgrades.

In each reported case, the impersonators asked for and received the residents’ security codes once inside. Authorities warn residents who have shared their security code with an unknown person to immediately contact their security provider to update their passcodes to protect their homes.

The Vincennes Police Department is particularly interested in hearing from any residents who may have encountered similar incidents on the afternoon or evening of November 6. Anyone with information or who may have experienced a similar situation is urged to contact the department at 812-882-1630.

As this investigation continues, police are reminding homeowners to verify the identity of any service personnel and contact their security company directly before allowing access to their property.
