(MICHIGAN CITY) – A small child was saved from Lake Michigan this week.
The toddler nearly floated away on an inflatable duck at Washington Park Beach in Michigan City.
Dave Benjamin, a water safety instructor, says he used his paddleboard to reach a nearby boater for help. He says, “If that boat wasn’t there, there’s a strong likelihood the child could have submerged.”
Benjamin says the toddler was with his mother and a sibling in the water, when a gust of wind blew the child and his inflatable duck further into Lake Michigan.
WNDU says boaters jumped into the water and were able to rescue the boy.
