Seymour wrestlers power past BNL

SEYMOUR – Seymour posted six pin wins while powering past Bedford North Lawrence 45-27 during high school wrestling action on Thursday night.

The Stars countered with five victories on the mat. Patrell Childs scored a 14-8 triumph over Charlie Bruce at 113 pounds, and Jorj Filler flattened Brody Bowles in 4:01 at 126.

Other BNL winners included Jaxon Powell (a pin of Mason Nugent at 170), Tate Tanksley (trapping Diego Aguilar in 4:41 at 195) and Junior Arellano (pinning Jesus Aguilar at 285).

“We had some really good wins and some tough losses,” BNL coach Chris Branam said. “Obviously hate losing the dual, but I’m seeing some growth in the wrestlers that bodes well in the future.

“Tate, Junior, Jorj and Jaxon all looked good tonight and picked up some nice wins. Ethan Stancombe lost a tight match (6-2 to Sam Chandler at 152) against one of Seymour’s seniors. Ethan has been having a good season and matches like these are good learning experiences for him.

“Overall, we’re going to head into the practice room tomorrow with some ideas of what we need to work on.”

BNL will compete in the Bo Henry Tournament at Bloomington North on Saturday.
