Bloomington Police investigating shooting that occurred early Monday morning

BLOOMINGTON – On July 11th at approximately 1:17 a.m., officers responded to the 400 block of S Walnut Street in reference to a shooting. A caller reported that they had heard a single gunshot and then heard a man yelling for help.

Upon the arrival of officers, a 42 year-old man was located in the street with a gunshot wound to his chest. Officers administered care to the man until the arrival of an ambulance. The man was then transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital for treatment of his injury.

Officers spoke to several individuals who reported hearing a single gunshot, then heard tires screeching as a vehicle sped from the area. Prior to the victim being flown to Indianapolis, he advised investigators that a vehicle had pulled up next to him as he was walking and occupants of the vehicle began arguing with him.

He stated that two occupants of the vehicle brandished handguns and one of them fired at him once, striking him in the chest. The vehicle then sped off from the area northbound on Walnut Street and the victim fell to the ground. The victim then attempted to crawl out of the street and began yelling for help.
