EAST OOLITIC – An East Oolitic man was arrested Saturday on a warrant on a charge of domestic battery.
Police arrested 33-year-old Michael Collins, of 44 Treslar St., on a charge of domestic battery in the presence of a minor.
According to a probable cause affidavit, on March 5, 2021, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies were called to a home in the 40 block of Tresslar Street because two people were fighting in the home.
The caller told police Collins had pulled a woman’s hair and was hitting her in front of the children.
The injured female told police Collins had left in a black GMC Acadia.
The woman told police Collins was coming down off drugs and she told police if he goes to jail he could get well and go to rehab.
The woman told police she was getting the children ready to leave the home when he pushed her down. She told him not to do this in front of the children and “he lost it”.
She told police this happens every week and “the reason Family Services is in their business” she told police.
“Every week he tries to come off something and then he goes crazy,” she added.
The woman told police the children are upset because they don’t want their father to go to jail.
“When he is not on drugs he is the best guy ever,” she added.
Police said the woman had several abrasions and scratches on her forehead and the left side of her face.
Police also found the television on the floor.
The Department of Child Services was also alerted.
The woman did not want to file charges against Collins.
The information was forwarded to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office and a warrant was issued for Collins’ arrest.
