Main Street in Shoals to close Tuesday for parking striping

SHOALS Drivers in Shoals should prepare for downtown travel disruptions this week as the town moves forward with infrastructure maintenance. Town officials have announced that Main Street will be closed to all traffic on Tuesday, April 14, to allow crews to repaint parking space lines.

The closure is expected to last throughout the day. Officials stated that no vehicles will be permitted on the roadway until the striping work is fully completed and the paint has had sufficient time to dry.

The repainting project is part of a series of recent downtown enhancements in Shoals, which has seen several revitalization efforts over the past year, including new business signage and building façade upgrades.

Like many outdoor maintenance projects, this work is weather-dependent. If rain or high winds occur on Tuesday, the striping may be postponed to a later date. Residents are encouraged to check the town’s official social media pages or the Town Hall notice board for real-time updates regarding delays.

To ensure the safety of the work crews and the quality of the new markings, the town has issued the following guidance:

Through-traffic is asked to utilize US 50 or other side streets to bypass the downtown core.

Any vehicles remaining on Main Street on Tuesday morning may be subject to towing to allow the painting equipment clear access to the curbside.

Residents visiting the Shoals Public Library or other Main Street businesses should plan for alternate parking on adjacent blocks.

“We appreciate the community’s patience as we perform this necessary maintenance to keep our downtown organized and safe for visitors,” town officials said in a statement.

Access to Main Street is expected to be fully restored by Tuesday evening, provided the work stays on schedule.
