Directed patrol targets distracted driving along Interstate 70

PENDELTON – On Friday, April 10th, the Indiana State Police conducted a four-hour directed enforcement patrol focusing on distracted driving along Interstate 70, spanning the Indianapolis and Pendleton Districts. The patrol zone covered a significant portion of the interstate, from the 69-mile marker to the 156-mile marker (Ohio/Indiana line).

During the enforcement detail, troopers focused on identifying and addressing unsafe driving behaviors, with particular emphasis on cell phone use while driving.  As a result of these proactive efforts, troopers made 153 traffic stops.

Enforcement activity during the patrol included:

  • 72 Traffic citations.
  • 4 Telecommunication usage citations
  • 4 Telecommunication usage warnings
  • 103 Warnings issued.
  • 5 Criminal arrests.

Commercial motor vehicles (CMV) enforcement was also a key component of the operation.

  • 18 CMVs Stopped
  • 16 CMV Inspections were conducted, resulting in 45 violations.
  • 9 CMV Citations issued
  • 9 CMV Warnings.
