Obituary: Tommy Dee Henderson

January 1, 1948 – April 1, 2026

Tommy Dee Henderson, 78, Bedford, passed away on Wednesday, April 1st, 2026, at his residence.

Born January 1, 1948, in Bedford, Indiana. He was the son of William & Mabel (Kern) Henderson. Tom graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1965 and married Connie L. Yother on May 25th, 1969.

Tom worked for RCA in Bloomington, Indiana, for many years before graduating from IUPUI with a Master of Social Work degree. He retired from Stonebelt, where he worked as a social worker and a therapist. He was very passionate about helping those with special needs. Tom was also a poet, author, and a self-proclaimed philosopher. He compiled and published his life’s writings into one book, “Web of Spindled Time, A Poetic Point of View.” In his later years, he collaborated with his brother-in-law, Jerry Yother, to
transform many of his poems into songs.

Survivors include his two sons, Dusty Henderson of Myrtle Beach, SC, & Jamie Henderson & wife Devin of Bedford, IN; one granddaughter, Mackenzie Henderson, and one great-daughter, Emlyn.

He was preceded in death by his wife, father, mother, brother Joel Henderson, sister Joyce Burns, and granddaughter Traleigh Henderson, and great-grandson Ryker.

An informal Celebration of Life event will be held at The Bride of Christ Fellowship, located at 755 Diana St., Mitchell, IN 47446, on Saturday, April 11th, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., followed by the burial at Lawrenceport Cemetery.
