BEDFORD – The City of Bedford Utilities Department has begun its annual spring maintenance program, with crews working across the city to flush fire hydrants through Thursday, April 16th.

This essential process ensures that the city’s 1,750+ hydrants are in proper working order and helps maintain water quality by removing mineral deposits and sediment that naturally accumulate in the water mains over time.
While the flushing is necessary for public safety and infrastructure integrity, residents are advised that the schedule remains tentative and is subject to change based on weather conditions or unforeseen technical delays.
The schedule is subject to change if each day’s work is not completed as scheduled or due to inclement weather.
Customers may notice fluctuations in pressure and/or discoloration of their tap water during hydrant flushing. If water appears discolored, customers are advised to run their cold water until it clears. It is recommended that customers postpone washing laundry and limit the use of hot water until the cold water clears.
