The incident began at approximately 11:08 p.m. when Mitchell Police Officer Cody Blackwell and Detective Grogan were dispatched to 202 E. Grissom Avenue. Initial reports suggested a verbal argument was occurring between Micheli and his wife.

Upon arrival, Officer Blackwell observed David Micheli through a window. According to the probable cause affidavit, Micheli made eye contact with the officer before retreating further into the interior of the home and refusing to comply with orders to step outside.

Knowing that an active protection order was in place prohibiting Micheli’s presence at the residence, officers established a perimeter around the house.

After several minutes of silence from the suspect, Officer Blackwell approached the rear entrance and announced his presence. While Micheli’s wife initially appeared confused by the police presence, Officer Blackwell informed her that if David did not surrender, a Lawrence County K-9 unit would be requested to enter the home and extract him.

Shortly after the warning, Micheli exited the residence without further resistance. Officers confirmed the status and specific limits of the protection order before placing him in handcuffs.

Micheli was transported to the Lawrence County Jail, where he was booked for the protection order violation.

No injuries were reported during the encounter.
