December 27, 1946 – March 31, 2026
Robert Steven “Bob” Strothmann, 79, of Seymour, IN, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 31, at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour.
Born December 27, 1946, in McLeansboro, IL, he was the son of Clemens L.F. and Freda E. Strothmann. He was a 1965 graduate of Seymour Senior High School, a 1970 graduate of Purdue University (B.S. in Mechanical Engineering), and pursued numerous post-graduate courses in Computer Science.
Bob fell in love and married the love of his life, Kathleen “Kathy” Anne Mack, on May 22, 1971, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour. The couple was blessed to have the service performed by Kathy’s father, Rev. Victor A. Mack. Their union endured almost 55 years, giving them two daughters: Stephanie Anne and Heidi Suzanne.
Bob had a work ethic like no other and started his career at Texas Eastern, then Cummins as a Software Engineer, before moving to Gar Tech Enterprises in Austin, IN, as their Software Engineer, where he was still working.
Bob was a man of faith and believed in the Triune God, and he enjoyed so many things during his life. He enjoyed playing music on his tenor saxophone and clarinet, working out, and driving fast. His happiest place was the country, visiting his daughter’s small farm in rural Jackson County, which brought back happy memories of his grandparents’ farm in Southern Illinois. A true joy, Bob’s favorite thing was to take the couple’s dog, Abby, out for car rides.
Survivors are his wife, Kathy; his daughters, Stephanie Anne Strothmann of Seymour and Heidi Suzanne (Andy) Worthington of Reelsville, IN, and grandsons, Oscar McQuay Worthington and Irwin Noah Worthington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stillborn daughter, Jennifer Eileen Strothmann; and stillborn sister, Jane Ellen Strothmann.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 10, 2026, with a celebration of Bob’s life at 4:00 p.m. at the Burkholder Chapel of Thorne Family Funeral Homes in Seymour.
To honor Bob’s wishes, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to Trinity Lutheran High School, the Jackson County Humane Society, Jackson County United Way, or a charity of the donor’s choice instead of flowers.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Jon Pace and Scotty Wessel at the Burkholder Chapel of Thorne Family Funeral Homes in Seymour.
