ISP troopers locate Walmart theft suspect

BLOOMINGTON – Troopers from the Bloomington District located and arrested a theft suspect traveling on I-69 early Wednesday morning, April 1.

Trooper Collin Cook, of the Bloomington District, patrolled I-69, near the 137-mile marker, when he learned of a dispatch from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office regarding a burglary that took place at the Greenwood Walmart. The dispatch also included a description of the suspect’s vehicle. 

The vehicle driven by the suspect, Joseph D. Reed, 61, of Indianapolis, was observed by Trooper Cook on I-69. When additional officers arrived, Trooper Cook conducted a traffic stop. Based upon probable cause, Reed was arrested without incident. Trooper Cook and officers located evidence inside Reed’s vehicle.

Reed was transported to the Morgan County Jail, where his custody was transferred for the following preliminary charges of burglary and receiving or possession of stolen property, both Level 5 felonies.

Trooper Curtis Wilder, deputies from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, and officers from the Martinsville Police Department assisted with the traffic stop.
