Warrant requested for sex offender following failure to register

LAWRENCE COUNTY The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office is seeking an arrest warrant for a local man after he allegedly violated the terms of the Indiana Sex Offender Registry.

Christopher Bowles, 48, currently reported as homeless, faces a Level 6 Felony charge for failure to register, according to court documents filed by Chief Deputy Brandon Blackwell.

The investigation began on March 5, 2026, when Alissa Shoults, the Sex Violent Offender Registry (SVOR) Coordinator, notified authorities that Bowles had failed to meet his mandatory reporting requirements.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Bowles completed a “Temporary Residence/Homeless Form” on January 14, 2026. Under Indiana law, individuals registered as homeless are required to report to the Sheriff’s Office every seven days to verify their status and location.

Records show that Bowles last complied with the registry requirements on Wednesday, February 25, 2026. However, he failed to appear for his scheduled check-in on Wednesday, March 4.

Chief Deputy Blackwell noted in the affidavit:

“As of Thursday, March 5, he has yet to come in to fulfill his requirement to register every seven days. There has been no attempt by Christopher to contact [the coordinator] to provide any reasoning why he has not reported.”

Bowles had previously informed officials that he was staying at the Men’s Warming Shelter in Bedford. His last known permanent address was listed on Louie Smith Road in Williams, Indiana.

The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office formally requested that a warrant be issued for Bowles’ arrest. He was detained on March 31.
