HYMERA — A drug investigation in Sullivan County has led to the discovery of an indoor marijuana cultivation site and the seizure of nearly 20 firearms. The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office released details of the operation Friday following a targeted search of a residence in Hymera.

During the execution of a search warrant, deputies uncovered a sophisticated indoor growing setup containing 31 marijuana plants in various stages of growth. In addition to the live plants, investigators recovered approximately three pounds of psilocybin mushrooms, a Schedule I controlled substance.

The investigation took a more serious turn as officers cleared the residence and discovered 18 firearms.
The occupant of the home, 41-year-old Charles Spiker, was taken into custody at the scene. Records checks revealed that Spiker has a prior felony conviction, which legally prohibits him from possessing any firearms under both Indiana and federal law.

Following the search and seizure, Spiker was transported to the Sullivan County Jail. He currently faces a litany of felony and misdemeanor charges, including felon in possession of a firearm, dealing marijuana, possession of marijuana with a prior conviction, dealing in and possession of a controlled substance, maintaining a common nuisance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office noted that the investigation remains active as they process the evidence seized from the Hymera residence.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent until proven guilty through a fair and due legal process. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
