BEDFORD — A Bedford man was taken into custody Wednesday morning after police say he struck his girlfriend during an argument at his residence.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Capt. Nicholas Lemke of the Bedford Police Department, officers were dispatched around 10:48 a.m. March 24 to the 1000 block of 16th Street, following a report of a domestic battery.

The victim told police that Reese Spaulding had struck her on the left cheek with an open hand during a dispute earlier in the morning at his home in the 1000 block of Q Street. The woman reported that the argument involved a disagreement over money and that Spaulding had also taken her phone during the confrontation. She walked to a friend’s residence to contact authorities.
Police said the victim has lived intermittently with Spaulding for several years and stated that prior incidents of physical altercations had occurred. Officers documented the incident with a recorded statement, photographs, and a domestic battery lethality screening.
Spaulding was located at his residence and placed under arrest after initially exiting through a back door. He denied striking the victim, claiming the altercation began over missing money. Spaulding was read his Miranda rights and transported to the Lawrence County Jail.
He faces a preliminary charge of domestic battery.
Those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
