SEYMOUR — What began as a routine call regarding loose dogs ended in the arrest of two men on felony drug charges this past weekend.
On Saturday, officers with the Seymour Police Department were dispatched to the 1000 block of Bennett Street following reports of dogs running unsecured in the neighborhood. While speaking with the owner of the animals to address the local ordinance violation, officers reportedly detected the distinct odor of burning marijuana emanating from a nearby garage.
The observation prompted investigators to secure a search warrant for the property. Upon serving the warrant and searching the premises, officers uncovered a variety of illegal substances and equipment, including methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.
Following the discovery, police took two individuals into custody. Jeffrey Breedlove, 62, of Seymour, and Joseph Howard, 43, of Medora, were transported to the Jackson County Jail. Both men are facing charges of maintaining a common nuisance, possession of meth, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The Seymour Police Department reminds residents that reporting minor nuisances—such as loose animals—often plays a role in uncovering more serious criminal activity. Residents are encouraged to report suspicious behavior or ordinance violations to local dispatch to help maintain neighborhood safety.
