South Bend man arrested on methamphetamine charges following Indiana State Police investigation

SOUTH BEND – Yesterday an investigation that spanned nearly four months into dealing methamphetamine came to a conclusion after a search warrant was served and a South Bend, IN man was arrested.

At approximately 10:00 a.m., on March 17, 2026, a search warrant was served at a residence in the 400 block of Birdsell Street in South Bend. This search warrant was the culmination of a drug investigation that began in November of 2025 after receiving a tip from a concerned citizen.  Officers located suspected methamphetamine, suspected cocaine, pills identified as controlled substances, suspected marijuana, and drug paraphernalia in the home. 

Carter Scutchfield, 49 of South Bend, IN was arrested for Dealing Methamphetamine, Level 2 Felony, and Possession of Methamphetamine, Level 3 Felony, as a result of this search warrant and investigation.  Scutchfield was taken to the St. Joseph County Jail.

Throughout this investigation the Indiana State Police was assisted by the Mishawaka Police Department and the St. Joseph County Police Department.
