The incident began Saturday evening at approximately 5:04 p.m. Seymour dispatch received a call regarding a woman inside a home in the 700 block of North Ewing Street. According to a news release from Lt. C.J. Foster of the Seymour Police Department, the caller noted that the house was supposed to be empty and the woman was seen carrying a box out of the home.

Patrol officers quickly obtained a description of the suspect and began a canvas of the surrounding neighborhood. A short time later, officers located a woman matching the description who was later identified as Dugan, just a few blocks away in the 700 block of North Broadway Street. She was reportedly still carrying the box when police made contact.

While some officers spoke with Dugan, others conducted a sweep of the Ewing Street residence to secure the scene.

Following the investigation, Dugan was taken into custody and booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 1:54 a.m. Sunday. She faces charges of burglary, a Level 5 felony, and theft with a prior conviction, a Level 6 felony. She has entered a not guilty plea. A pretrial conference is scheduled for April 27th at 3:00 p.m. in Jackson County Circuit Court. A jury trial is scheduled for September 1, at 8:30 a.m.

Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent until proven guilty through a fair and due legal process. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
