FERDINAND — A high-stakes standoff involving a drone deployment and a state SWAT team concluded Friday afternoon with the arrest of a 45-year-old woman in Ferdinand. Jaime Gonzalez was taken into custody following a chaotic scene that began with a report of a homicidal individual holding three hostages at gunpoint.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Office responded to the residence after receiving the emergency call. However, upon arrival, deputies encountered a situation that quickly escalated in a bizarre and dangerous direction.
As law enforcement established a perimeter, Gonzalez exited the home holding what appeared to be a Molotov cocktail. In a startling display, she reportedly poured the contents of the incendiary device over her own head before retreating back inside the house.
To assess the threat to the reported hostages without further escalating the violence, officers deployed a drone into the residence. The aerial footage revealed that the initial report of hostages may have been inaccurate; Gonzalez was seen standing alone, yelling at herself.
Despite the lack of hostages, Gonzalez refused to surrender. Police utilized chemical gas in an attempt to flush her out of the home, but the tactic proved unsuccessful. The standoff eventually ended when an Indiana State Police SWAT team breached the residence and used a taser to safely subdue her.
Following her apprehension, Gonzalez was transported for medical evaluation before being booked into the Dubois County Security Center. She was arrested on two existing outstanding warrants, but now faces a string of new legal complications, including battery resulting in bodily injury, possession of a legend drug, and resisting law enforcement, pending further investigation
This incident marks the second major tactical operation in Dubois County this month. It follows “Operation: Snow White,” a multi-agency drug sweep conducted on March 3 that resulted in the arrest of 11 individuals across Jasper, Huntingburg, and Ferdinand.
While the sheriff’s office has not linked Gonzalez to the previous drug round-up, they emphasized that the investigation into Friday’s events remains active. Officials are working to determine the origin of the false hostage report and whether additional charges related to the Molotov cocktail or the initial emergency call are warranted.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent until proven guilty through a fair and due legal process. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
