A traffic stop for an expired license plate ending up resulting in a man being arrested for refusal to identify when he would not give his identity on the traffic stop.  He also was charged with intimidation and impersonating a law enforcement officer after claiming to be a federal agent and threatening to kill the troopers on the traffic stop. Troopers did locate a handgun in his jacket pocket.  He was also found to be operating while intoxicated.

Later in the evening a traffic stop for an equipment violation resulted in the driver receiving a summons for driving while suspended-prior.  The passenger of this vehicle refused to exit during this traffic stop and investigation and jumped into the driver’s seat and fled from the scene.  He led troopers on a short pursuit into an apartment complex where he drove through yards before fleeing on foot and running into an apartment with a firearm in his hands.  The apartment was surrounded and the suspect eventually came out and surrendered to police.  A subsequent search warrant led to troopers finding the firearm in the apartment.  The suspect was arrested for numerous charges to include serious violent felon in possession of a handgun, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, resisting law enforcement, and theft of a vehicle.

Another traffic stop resulted in the driver being found to have active warrants and being in possession of methamphetamine and paraphernalia.

The Indiana State Police will continue to have high visibility, focused patrols utilizing proactive policing in the communities we live in and work in.  The focus of these patrols will be seeking those that drive impaired and criminal interdiction through traffic enforcement.  The goal of these patrols is to make our roadways and communities safer for everyone.
