John Thomas “Tom” Harrell, 78, passed away peacefully at his home in Lexington, KY on Sunday, March 8. His wife Rhonda was by his side.
Tom was born November 23, 1947 in Lawrence County, and grew up in the Heltonville area. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Violet and Herbert Harrell and his beloved Grandmother Fern. He married Rhonda (Worley) in 1989, and she survives.
Tom was retired from the Department of the Interior office of surface mining reclamation. He was an avid hunter, a tournament level fisherman, and enjoyed traveling in the western US. Tom was a simple man, in the best sense of the word: humble, kind, honest, and willing to help any friend in need.
Surviving are his wife Rhonda; stepchildren Mark Lewis (Tony Giannini) of New York, Marty Lewis (Monica) of Indianapolis, and Michelle Henderson of Lexington; He was Papaw to Andrew, Walt and Gwenna Lewis of Indianapolis. Additionally, two sisters Donna Evans and Christie Spires of Heltonville, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation has been chosen, per Tom’s wishes.
