Water Rescue near Elnora: Motorist saved from rising floodwaters

ELNORA – Emergency responders successfully executed a water rescue Sunday morning after a motorist became trapped in a vehicle at a flooded intersection.

The Daviess County dispatch received a distress call shortly after 10:00 a.m. reporting a vehicle stranded at the intersection of 1550 North and 300 East. Upon arrival, crews found the vehicle partially submerged, with floodwaters reportedly beginning to enter the cabin.

The scene saw a rapid mobilization of local resources to ensure the driver’s safety.

Multiple sheriff’s deputies, local fire departments, and EMS crews arrived on the scene within minutes. Due to the depth and flow of the rising water, rescuers deployed a boat to reach the stranded car.

The individual was successfully removed from the vehicle and safely brought to dry land before being transported from the scene by medical personnel.

Following the rescue, authorities contacted the county highway department to officially close the intersection. “Road Closed” signs have been placed in the area as a precaution against further incidents.

Local officials urge drivers to avoid traveling through standing water. As little as six inches of water can cause a driver to lose control of a vehicle, while two feet can sweep most cars away.

The identity of the motorist and their current condition have not been released at this time.
