Early morning crash claims life of Crane man

SPRINGVILLE – An early Sunday morning single-vehicle crash has resulted in the death of a Crane man.

Approximately 4:21 a.m., Sunday, March 8th, Troopers from the Bloomington District responded to the report of a truck on its side in the median of I-69 southbound near the 100-mile marker, south of Bloomington.

The deceased male, later identified as Brandon M. Koontz, 39, of Crane, was ejected and found in the median approximately 50 feet from where the truck came to final rest.

The preliminary crash investigation, conducted by Trooper Kevin Fowler, indicates that the truck exited the roadway and struck a ditch in the center of the median. The vehicle then went airborne and started rolling before coming to rest.

Greene County EMS and firefighters responded to the scene. The Indiana State Police was also assisted by officers from the Greene County Sheriff’s Department and the Greene County Coroner. Troopers Collin Cook and Curtis Wilder responded to assist at the scene as well.

The fatal crash remains under investigation and toxicology results are pending.
