BLOOMINGTON – The Monroe County Major Crash Investigation Team is providing an update and announcing an arrest following an investigation into a serious bodily injury crash that occurred on November 9, 2025, in the 600 block of East Smithville Road.
Six people were transported to the hospital for treatment, and three of those individuals sustained serious injuries.

Aidan Johnson, 20, of Bloomington, has been charged with three counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, causing serious bodily injury, three counts of operating a vehicle with a Schedule I controlled substance in the blood causing serious bodily injury, obstruction of justice, and possession of marijuana.
The MCI Team conducted a comprehensive reconstruction of the collision and determined that the vehicle operated by Johnson crossed the centerline into the opposing traffic lane, where it collided with another vehicle operated by an 81-year-old man with his 78-year-old wife as a passenger.
As part of the investigation, a judicially authorized search warrant was obtained for a blood draw from Johnson after deputies identified signs of intoxication. Toxicology results later confirmed the presence of Delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol in his blood.
Johnson surrendered himself at the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office on March 4, 2026, and was taken into custody without incident.
Those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
