ORLEANS — The Orleans Police Department officially expanded its ranks Wednesday morning as a local native was sworn in to serve his hometown.
Deputy Marshal Michael A. Lantis took his oath of office during a brief ceremony held at Orleans Town Hall. The oath was administered by Clerk-Treasurer Robert F. Henderson.

Officer Lantis is a lifelong resident of Orleans and brings a background of service to the department. In addition to his new role in local law enforcement, Lantis currently serves as a member of the Indiana National Guard.
While Lantis has officially joined the force, his transition will include formal training at the state level. He is scheduled to attend the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) in the coming months, where he will undergo several weeks of rigorous instruction in physical fitness, firearms, emergency vehicle operations, and Indiana law.
Town officials expressed their enthusiasm for adding a familiar face to the department, noting that Lantis’s deep roots in the community will be an asset to the force.
