ORLEANS — Local authorities have closed several city streets as excessive rainfall continues to cause localized flooding throughout the area.
Town officials announced that Monroe Street and Jim Stalker Way (Adams Street), specifically between 2nd and 4th Streets, are currently water-covered and impassable. Barricades have been staged to prevent motorists from entering the hazardous areas.
Police and street departments are issuing a stern reminder to the public: do not move or drive around any barricades. These measures are in place for driver safety, as water depth can be deceptive and road surfaces may be compromised beneath the surface.
Residents are urged to use extreme caution when driving in and around Orleans today. “Excessive rainfall is resulting in localized flooding throughout the area,” officials stated. “Please stay weather alert.”
With additional rain in the forecast, water levels on local roadways may fluctuate. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes and avoid low-lying areas until the water recedes and the streets are officially reopened.
