BLOOMINGTON — A 74-year-old Bloomington woman is dead, and a child is among the injured following a violent head-on collision on South Rockport Road Wednesday evening.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a traffic crash with injuries at approximately 6:16 p.m. on February 25 near the intersection of South Rockport Road and West Stansifer Court.
Preliminary evidence indicates a northbound Subaru crossed left of center into the southbound lane and collided head-on with a Kia. A third vehicle, a Toyota, then became involved.
The driver of the Kia, a 74-year-old Bloomington woman, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Monroe County Coroner’s Office will release the deceased female’s information after next of kin has been notified.
The driver of the Subaru, a 48-year-old Bloomington man, was transported to the hospital because of injuries sustained in the crash. A 7-year-old child was a passenger in Subaru and was also transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the third vehicle a Toyota, was a 58-year-old Bloomington man. He was also transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
Investigators with the Monroe County Major Crash Investigation Team responded and the roadway was closed for several hours for reconstruction. This investigation remains ongoing and more details will be released when they are available.
