TRAFFIC ALERT: Lawrence County announces road closures for culvert repairs

LAWRENCE COUNTY — The Lawrence County Highway Department has issued a traffic alert for local commuters as crews move to repair essential drainage infrastructure and road surfaces.

According to Highway Superintendent Brian Sowder, two key county roads are scheduled for temporary closures starting today to facilitate culvert replacements and surface maintenance.

Wallner Quarry Road: The road will be closed to all traffic approximately two-tenths of a mile from its intersection with Bartlettsville Road. Crews will be on-site to perform a culvert repair.

East Grissom Road: This route will also be closed to allow crews to address “soft spots” in the roadway and replace a culvert. This maintenance is critical for preventing further pavement deterioration following the winter freeze-thaw cycle.

For both locations, the work is scheduled during 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to minimize disruption to morning and afternoon commutes.

While the roads will be completely impassable at the specific work sites, residents and drivers will still be able to access properties and travel up to the point of repair from either direction.

Sowder emphasized that through-traffic should seek alternative routes during these hours.

All work is weather-contingent. In the event of heavy rain, these repairs may be rescheduled to ensure the longevity of the new culverts and patches.
