BLOOMINGTON – The City of Bloomington is formally announcing that John Garzee has joined the Engineering Department as Traffic Engineer, where he will coordinate transportation improvements and oversee traffic operations.

John brings more than seven years of experience in municipal traffic engineering and most recently served at the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency. He engineered several public sector transportation projects, including new bike lanes, pedestrian crosswalks, curb extensions, and traffic-calming devices.
“Transportation should work for everyone, no matter how they travel,” Garzee said. “That means ensuring our infrastructure is safe, accessible, and practical. I look forward to working with and for our neighbors as we make Bloomington safer for all.”
As a Traffic Engineer, Garzee will play a critical role in implementing the City’s safety action plan—a cross-departmental strategy for optimizing the mobility, safety, and accessibility of the City’s transportation infrastructure. He will help review and oversee capital projects and transportation planning initiatives while investigating and responding to traffic-related inquiries and requests from the public and other agencies.
Garzee will also serve as the primary liaison between Engineering and other City departments, external stakeholders, and volunteer-led boards and commissions. The Traffic Engineer will support the Transportation Commission, an advisory board that makes recommendations on improving city-wide transportation conditions and traffic regulations.
“The importance of this role cannot be overstated,” said Andrew Cibor, Engineering Director. “Transportation touches every aspect of daily life, and the Traffic Engineer makes sure the City’s transportation system is working as best as it possibly can. We are thrilled to have John on our team and are eager to see the great work he will do.”
