Obituary: Norma Kay Mitchell

December 15, 1943 – February 14, 2026

Norma Kay Mitchell, 82, of Bloomington, passed away Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Jill’s House Assisted Living in Bloomington.

Born December 15, 1943, in Inglewood, California, she was the daughter of Guy and Ada June (Abbott) Halverstadt.  She married David Loy Mitchell and he preceded her in death on November 23, 2022.

Norma and her husband volunteered on Southwest District local projects to open up a Compassion and Hope House in Newberry.  She assisted her husband as a minster’s wife at Shoals Church of the Nazarene and helped to remodel the parsonage.  Norma enjoyed helping with the children in the neighborhood.

Surviving are her step-children, Carol (Charles) Linnell of Valdez, Alaska, Keith (Jenny) Mitchell of Ladera Ranch, California, and Kimberly (Mike) Veasy of Palm Bay, Florida; grandchildren, Robert Stark, Tiffani Le Bouef, and Ron Veasy; and several great-grandchildren.

Her parents; husband; and siblings, James Halverstadt and Sylvia Halverstadt, preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 2, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Reverend Tim Crump officiating.  Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the service on Monday at the funeral home.
