Obituary: Richard Dean Hawk

March 3, 1956 – February 20, 2026

Richard Dean Hawk, 69, of Orleans, passed away on Friday, February 20, 2026, at the University Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born March 3, 1956, in Bedford, he was the son of Charlotte Ann (Hackney) Hawk. He married Teresa Matthew on March 27, 1976, and she survives.

Richard attended Orleans High School and was a machine operator at both Essex in Orleans and Net Shape in Campbellsburg. Richard loved hunting, fishing, and gardening. He loved pretty much anything outdoors, as well as watching IU basketball.

Surviving to cherish his memory is his wife, Teresa Hawk; two sons, Jeff (Kim) Hawk and Tyler (Courtney) Hawk; one daughter, Kayla Hawk; five grandchildren, Riley Hawk, Raegan Hawk, Sofia Hawk, Noah Hancock, and Keely Hancock; one sister, Kathy Hawk; along with several nieces and nephews.

Richard was preceded in death by his mother, Charlotte Ann (Hackney) Hawk; and two sisters, Donna and Diane.

Funeral services for Richard Hawk will be at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 25, at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne Family Funeral Homes in Bedford, with Tom Bostic officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 25, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., also at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel. Burial will be Thursday, February 26, at 10:00 a.m. at Cresthaven Memory Gardens.
