Loogootee Police investigate reports of suspicious male in vehicle approaching children

LOOGOOTEE — The Loogootee Police Department has increased neighborhood patrols following a concerning report of a suspicious encounter involving a child on the city’s west side.

On February 19, 2026, officers received a report that a male driver in a white Toyota Camry pulled into a residential neighborhood and motioned for a juvenile female to approach his car. The child was near her home at the time of the incident.

According to investigators, the child’s mother witnessed the interaction and immediately brought the girl safely inside the house. The vehicle reportedly left the area shortly after the encounter.

Since that initial report, the department has received additional calls regarding suspicious vehicles slowing down or stopping near residences while children are playing outside.

Chief Case Cummings and the Loogootee Police Department are taking the reports seriously, implementing extra patrols in residential areas and continuing to gather information from neighbors.

Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any unusual activity immediately.
