Obituary: Russell Wayne (Cutt) Smith

March 11, 1945 – February 17, 202

Bedford-Russell Wayne (Cutt) Smith, 80, of Bedford died at 3:59 p.m. on Tuesday, February 17th at the IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born March 11, 1945, in Monroe County, IN, he was the son of Russell H. and Kathleen (Stafford) Smith. He married Patricia A. (Trish) Smith on June 8, 1973, and she survives. Cutt was a graduate of Needmore High School with the class of 1963, and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was self employed for many years in the excavating business; he later worked for Needmore Processing and Elliott Stone Quarry as a Heavy Equipment Operator. He was an avid member of the Southside Christian Church; and loved horses, shooting, mushroom hunting, and watching a good western on tv.

Survivors include his wife, Trish of Bedford; three children: Marty (Debra) Smith, Shelley (Bill) Brooking, and Brandi (David) Corbin all of Bedford; six grandchildren: Garrett Smith, Delanie (Austin) Berger, Joshua Davis, Jordan Davis, Dylan Brooking, and Grant Robbins; five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Ellen Sears, Rita Hawkins (Richard); a brother, Mike Smith (Jill); a sister-in-law, Brenda Smith; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Ronnie Smith, and a brother-in-law, Paul Sears.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 24th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Brad Taylor and Pastor Keith Wisely officiating. Burial will follow in the Judah Church of Christ Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by members of the American Legion Gillen Post #33. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 23rd at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
