Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department honors 2025 award recipients, celebrates retirement

BEDFORD — The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department recently recognized several members of its staff for outstanding service in 2025 and celebrated the retirement of a longtime employee.

During award presentations held over the past several weeks, the department named Kenton Carter as Officer of the Year. Niki Matheny was recognized as Jail Officer of the Year, and Kennedy Lively of dispatch was honored as Employee of the Year.

In addition to the top awards, several officers and employees received letters of commendation for exemplary efforts throughout the year, according to the department.

The department also marked the retirement of Larry Reed, who concluded a 21-year career in law enforcement service with the agency. Officials thanked Reed for his dedication and commitment to the community over more than two decades.

The annual recognitions highlight the work of deputies, corrections staff, and support personnel who contribute to public safety efforts across Lawrence County.
