Mitchell man facing burglary charges following alleged dispute with ex-wife

BEDFORD – A Mitchell man is facing multiple criminal charges, including a level 4 felony, after an early morning incident at a residence on State Road 158 in January.

On January 18th at approximately 1:04 a.m., Deputy C. Pruett of the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department responded to a burglary call at 3145 State Road 158. The caller, reported that her ex-husband, Timothy J.P. Bowden, 36, had entered her home without permission and stolen her iPhone 12.

Upon arrival, Deputy Pruett observed vehicle tracks in the snow leading from the driveway, through the front yard, and into a neighboring field. An open screen door was also noted on the east side of the home near where the tracks ended.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the two parties provided significantly different versions of the night’s events.

The victim told deputies she was asleep when Timothy began yelling at her after going through her phone. She stated he had been trespassed from the property since December 2025 and that he fled the scene as soon as she attempted to call 911 using her son’s phone.

In a follow-up interview on January 19, Timothy Bowden claimed he had been invited to the residence. He alleged the two had spent the evening together and that an argument only began after the female received a text from another man. He further claimed the phone was left in his truck by mistake and that he had later returned it.

Deputy Pruett noted that Timothy Bowden was officially trespassed from the property by a deputy on December 4, 2025. While Timothy promised to provide screenshots of messages proving he was invited to the home, the affidavit states that as of January 25, 2026, no such evidence had been provided to the Sheriff’s Department.

An arrest warrant was requested for Bowden on the following preliminary charges of burglary, theft and criminal trespass. He was detained on February 8th.
