SALEM — A historic industrial site in Washington County is getting a new lease on life. E&H Tubing, a Jackson County-based manufacturer of mechanical steel tubing, has officially launched a major expansion into Salem, bringing millions in investment and dozens of new jobs to the region.

The project reached a key milestone on February 12, 2026, when Radius Indiana announced a low-interest loan to support the final renovations of the facility.
The expansion is centered at the Cornerstone Facilities property—a site well-known to locals as the former home of Child Craft Industries and Smith Cabinet Furniture.
By repurposing these existing buildings, E&H Tubing is breathing new life into a historic industrial space rather than building from scratch. The company has signed a five-year lease on two buildings with an option to purchase the property in the future.
The City of Salem paved the way for this move in 2025 by approving a five-year tax abatement. Here is a breakdown of what the expansion means for the local economy:
- Initial Investment: Approximately $4 million in the first year, covering equipment and raw materials.
- Job Creation: Up to 40 new jobs in the initial phase, with potential for more as fabrication lines expand.
- Payroll Contribution: An estimated $900,000 annually added to the local tax base.
- Revenue Potential: Company representatives suggest the Salem operation could eventually generate $20 million in business.
Headquartered in Brownstown, E&H Tubing specializes in high-carbon steel tubing. Their products are essential components for several major industries, including:
- Agriculture: Equipment and machinery frames.
- Home & Garden: Carports, satellite posts, and boat docks.
- Construction: Metal buildings and security gates.
The company is currently hiring for its new Salem location. Openings typically include:
- Tube Mill Operators: Starting at $25.00 – $30.00/hour (experienced).
- Maintenance Technicians: Starting at $24.00 – $26.00/hour.
- Offbearers/General Labor: Starting at $14.50 – $16.00/hour.
E&H Tubing is known for its “no weekends” schedule, typically operating on 10-hour shifts, four days a week, with night-shift differentials and attendance bonuses available. To apply, click here.
