Bedford man arrested on drug charges after early morning traffic stop

BEDFORD – A local man is behind bars following a Sunday morning traffic stop that led to the discovery of suspected methamphetamine.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed by the Bedford Police Department, Officer Clay Blackburn was conducting a patrol near State Road 37 and Dixie Highway at approximately 4:09 a.m. on February 8, 2026. Blackburn observed a blue Chevrolet Monte Carlo traveling northbound without illuminated license plate lights. The officer further noted the driver failed to use a turn signal while changing lanes onto the overpass.

Jeffrey A. Bundy

Blackburn initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of State Road 37 and Patrick Robbins Way. The driver was identified as Jeffrey A. Bundy, 40, of Bedford.

During the encounter, Officer Blackburn reported that Bundy appeared nervous and “fidgety”. After Bundy exited the vehicle, the officer requested a pat-down for weapons. According to the affidavit, Bundy granted permission for a search of his person, stating, “I don’t care”.

During the search, Officer Blackburn reported finding the following in Bundy’s left pant pocket a clearplastic bag containing a crystal-like substance and two THC vapes.

The crystal-like substance was field-tested and yielded a positive result for methamphetamine. While the vapes were marked for destruction, the suspected methamphetamine was sealed and processed as evidence.

Bundy was detained at the scene with the assistance of Officer Bell. A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded no further contraband.

Bundy was transported to the Lawrence County Jail, where he was remanded on a preliminary charge of possession of methamphetamine. His vehicle was inventoried and towed from the scene by Jackson’s Heavy Haul.
