Elkhart couple arrested after Indiana State Police drug investigation

ELKHART CO. – An Indiana State Police investigation into dealing fentanyl resulted in the arrest of an Elkhart couple today.

This investigation began in early January 2026 after receiving a complaint from a concerned citizen.  The investigation progressed and ultimately resulted in a search warrant being served at a residence in the 53000 block of Hickory Lane in Elkhart on February 9, 2026, around 7:00 a.m.  During this warrant officers located approximately 44 grams of suspected fentanyl, a handgun, and a fentanyl press.

Robert Horton II, 44 of Elkhart, was arrested for dealing in a narcotic drug, Level 2 felony, possession of a narcotic drug, Level 3 felony, and maintaining a common nuisance, Level 6 felony.  Jacques Horton, 45 of Elkhart, was arrested for possession of a narcotic drug, Level 3 felony and maintaining a common nuisance, Level 6 felony.  Both were taken to the Elkhart County Jail.

The Indiana State Police was assisted in this investigation by the Elkhart County Intelligence and Covert Enforcement (ICE) Unit and the DEA.

Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent until proven guilty through a fair and due legal process. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
