Monroe County Democrats seek delegates and Precinct Chairs for 2026 Convention

BLOOMINGTON The clock is ticking for Monroe County residents looking to take an active leadership role in the Indiana Democratic Party. The Monroe County Democratic Party (MCDP) has issued a final call for individuals interested in serving as Delegates to the 2026 State Convention and as Precinct Chairs.

The deadline to file for these positions is strictly set for tomorrow, February 6, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. (Noon).

State Delegates play a pivotal role in the Democratic process. Those elected will represent Monroe County at the Indiana Democratic State Convention on June 6 at the Indiana Convention Center. Responsibilities include:

  • Voting on Nominations: Selecting statewide candidates for offices such as Attorney General and Secretary of State.
  • Defining the Platform: Voting on the official state party platform and rules.
  • Advocacy: Serving as ambassadors for Monroe County within the broader state political landscape.

How to File

To enter the race, candidates must submit a CAN-37 form to the Election Office before the noon deadline tomorrow.

  • Delegate Filings: Candidates must choose between running At-Large or by District, based on their specific County Council District.
  • Precinct Chair Filings: Residents interested in this role must submit a separate CAN-37 form.

The required forms can be downloaded via the Indiana State Government portal.

Identification Requirements Contrary to common misconceptions, you do not need to present an ID to file your candidacy paperwork at the Election Operations office. According to the Indiana Election Division, ID is only required if a form is notarized.

Running for party office may impact your ability to serve as a poll worker:

  • Uncontested Races: If the race is uncontested, your name does not appear on the ballot, and you may work at any poll.
  • Contested Races: If the race is contested, your name will appear on the ballot. In this case, you cannot work at early voting sites or any precinct where your name is listed for the election.

“This is an exciting opportunity to represent Monroe County Democrats, help shape our party’s platform, and vote on key statewide nominations.” — Monroe County Democratic Party
