BEDFORD — Lawrence County Aquatics received a $1,500 donation this month generated through proceeds from the 2025 Claude Akins Memorial Golf Classic, organizers announced.
The donation was presented Jan. 13, 2026, and came from a portion of the team photo proceeds collected during the annual golf event. Lawrence County Aquatics volunteers assisted with team photos during the 2025 tournament.
The Bedford Recreation Foundation matched the original contribution dollar-for-dollar and added an additional amount, bringing the total 2025 donation to $1,500.
Kristen Held, president of Lawrence County Aquatics, said the organization is a USA Swimming–chartered club serving Lawrence County and the surrounding areas. She said the donation will help support swim safety programs and ensure participants have the resources they need to grow, develop skills, and succeed in the program.
The Claude Akins Memorial Golf Classic is an annual community event that raises funds for local recreational organizations and entities through sponsorships and activities held during the tournament.
