Obituary: Norman Lee Anderson

October 4, 1937 – January 21, 2026

Norman Lee Anderson, 88, of Mitchell, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, January 21, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Born October 4, 1937, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Howard John “Heiny” Anderson and Olivia Maxine (Sanders) Anderson.

Norman grew up in and played football for Mitchell, graduating from Mitchell High School in 1956.  Norman always lived modestly, was honest and trustworthy, and believed in and served the Lord.  He was always helping someone and would give the shirt off his back to anyone.  His lifelong profession was steel fabrication and farming up until just a few years ago.  He was always designing and building something – always working and keeping busy.  His most beautiful creation was the log cabin that he built by hand from his own timber.  He built numerous structures over his lifetime.

Norman will be terribly missed by his family, but they know he is with the Lord and his body has been restored.

Surviving are his children, Gretchen (David McBride) Anderson of Mitchell, Rachel Minton of Paoli, and Jeremiah (Summer) Anderson of Mitchell; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

His parents; sister, Brenda Blake; and son-in-law, Mike Minton, preceded him in death

Funeral service will be at noon Thursday, January 29, at Liberty Baptist Church with Elder Will Ray officiating.  Burial will follow at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center, and from 11:00 a.m. until the service on Thursday at Liberty Baptist Church.

Memorial Gifts:  Liberty Baptist Cemetery Fund.
