MIAMI CO. – On January 16, 2026, just before 12:30 p.m., officers from the Indiana State Police and the Miami County Sheriff’s Office responded to an injury-involved crash on Mexico Road near Eel River Road in which a Macy, IN, man died.
The preliminary crash investigation by Trooper Derek Rine revealed that Robert Wiser, 61, of Macy, IN, was driving a 1993 Chevrolet pickup truck traveling southbound on Mexico Road near Eel River Road. For an undetermined reason, the Chevrolet traveled off the roadway and came to a final rest in the ditch. While first responders were on scene, Wiser became unresponsive and life-saving measures were initiated.
Wiser was transported via ambulance to a local hospital. Despite life-saving measures, Wiser succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by medical staff.
This is an ongoing investigation. At this time, neither the consumption of alcoholic beverages nor narcotics are suspected of contributing to this crash. Notification to the family of the deceased has been made.
Trooper Rine was assisted by other members of the Indiana State Police Peru District, the Miami County Sheriff’s Office, Parkview EMS, and Mexico Volunteer Fire Department.
