OOLITIC — The Town of Oolitic Utilities Department announced Wednesday afternoon that water service has been fully restored following the successful repair of a critical infrastructure leak.
Crews worked through the morning to fix a breach in the 10-inch main supply line, a vital artery that carries water from Bedford to Oolitic residents. While officials had previously warned that a town-wide outage was possible, the repair was completed efficiently once exploration began at 9:00 a.m.
In a relief for local households, the Utilities Department confirmed that the water has been turned back on and no boil order is in effect.
Although the “all-clear” has been given, residents who were following the earlier conservation notice—which included restricting laundry and dishwashing—can now resume normal usage.
Some residents may experience temporary air in their lines or slight discoloration immediately following the restoration of service. If this occurs, utility experts recommend:
- Running cold water faucets for several minutes until the water runs clear.
- Checking for any sediment in appliances like water heaters or dishwashers.
The Oolitic Utilities Department thanked residents for their patience and cooperation during the scheduled repair, noting that the proactive fix prevents a more severe, unplanned emergency during the upcoming winter storm forecast for the weekend.
