Norma Jewell McDonald, 82, passed peacefully from this world into the arms of Jesus on Friday, January 16, 2026, surrounded by her family.
She was born on October 5, 1943, in Bedford, Indiana, Jewell was the daughter of Reverend Matt and Christeen (Taylor) Strunk. She was a faithful member for 43 years as Hilltop Pentecostal Church in Avoca, Indiana. In her later years, she attended Peerless Pentecostal Church, in Bedford, Indiana. She served the Lord faithfully for 53 years of her life.
Jewell was a friend to many and fondly remembered by all who knew her. She retired from General Electric in 2000 after over 34 years of faithful employment. She loved to go shopping, and to travel. One of her most memorable trips was to Israel in 1979. She was always ready to go on drives through the beautiful countryside of Bedford, and to see where she grew up on Patton Hill. Her favorite times were being with her family and going to church.
She was a sacrificial mother and loved her family fiercely. Survivors include three sons, who had the honor of calling her “Mom”, Timothy (Gale) Turpin, of Campbellsburg, Barry (Anita) Turpin, of Mitchell, Steve (Danielle) Turpin, of Mitchell; She beamed with pride at those who called her “Grandma Jewell”, Ten grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter. She also is survived by two sisters, Phyllis Goldsby, Kay Knight (Ronnie), both of Bedford, Indiana; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Reverend Matt and Christeen Strunk; two brothers, Donnie and Steven Strunk and one grandson, Evan Turpin.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 22nd at Peerless Pentecostal Church with Reverend Bill Johnson and Reverend Aaron Swafford officiating. Burial will follow in Patton Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Thursday at the Peerless Pentecostal Church.
