Terre Haute woman arrested in Bedford traffic stop after drugs and paraphernalia found

BEDFORD — A Terre Haute woman was arrested early Sunday morning after a traffic stop in Bedford led to the discovery of suspected drugs and paraphernalia, police said.

Brooklyn Pickard, 20, was taken into custody around 1:10 a.m. Jan. 11 near the 700 block of Seventh Street and Lincoln Avenue, according to a probable cause affidavit filed by Officer Sarah Haluda of the Bedford Police Department.

Haluda said she stopped a maroon sedan after observing issues with the vehicle’s registration. During the stop, the driver, identified as Pickard, and her passengers, Cody Hamilton and Johnny Ward, provided inconsistent accounts of their travel plans, prompting further investigation.

Officer Bell arrived on scene with a K-9, which alerted to the presence of illegal substances in the vehicle. A search revealed suspected methamphetamine, fentanyl, drug paraphernalia, and a glass smoking device, police said. Pickard was also charged with trafficking with an inmate after one passenger, Ward, had been given a ride from a local shelter.

Pickard and Hamilton were transported to the Lawrence County Jail, while Ward was returned to the shelter. Field tests confirmed the presence of methamphetamine and fentanyl, and all evidence was photographed and secured by officers.

Pickard faces charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia, possession of a narcotic, and trafficking with an inmate. No arrest warrant was required, as she was taken into custody at the scene.

Police involved in the stop included Officer Sarah Haluda and Officer Bell.
